SWCPA staff pick, Urban and Industrial Heritage, South West Coast Path Photographer of the Year
I took the image in April 2021. West Bay is a favourite location of ours and on this occasion, I was concentrating on capturing some of the detail of this amazing place. The wooden shelter that has been restored and I just love all the textures and shapes in the shelter, the harbour wall it stands on and the reflections in the water. Removing the colour gives it a timeless appeal and using a telephoto lens makes the cliffs appear closer to the harbour than they actually are. The lack of people was also deliberate. It doesn’t happen very often during daylight hours! Monochrome photography is my favourite format, so I couldn’t resist entering at least one in the competition.
